SPIRIT 102.3 Goes Off The Air

Spirit 102.3 Now Exclusively Online
An open letter from Cox Radio, Tulsa VP/Market Manager Dan Lawrie:
Chances are you have now learned that Spirit 102.3 FM is no longer on the air as a contemporary Christian format and it is now a 24-hour simulcast of News/Talk KRMG. The question you may be asking is "why the change?"
First, I want to thank our loyal listeners for their support of the station over the past three years. We have enjoyed serving the Tulsa community with Spirit 102.3 FM. In just three years, Spirit 102.3 attracted a sizable listening audience. The popularity of Spirit 102.3 even surprised many executives in the radio industry, as this was the first contemporary Christian radio station operated by Cox Radio.
As we've evaluated the challenges of the current economy, we've made some difficult choices with regard to finding the best way to run our business operations while still meeting the needs of our listening audience. While the format was popular on the radio, the changes in the economy are forcing us, like so many other companies, to explore new ways of meeting the needs of this community while maintaining a focus on solid business operations. The decision to simulcast our 24-hour news/talk format will offer valuable news and talk radio content to a wider listening audience, while affording us the opportunity to continue our role as a local employer and a strong community leader.
The good news is... Spirit 102.3 is not going away completely!
You can still listen to Spirit 102.3's great contemporary Christian music through our website at www.spirit1023.com. Just click on "Listen Now". or on Cox Communications Channel 962.
I know many of you will be disappointed Spirit 102.3 will not be there for your drive to and from work, and not hearing the friendly voices of Josh and Rebecca in the morning will be hard to get used to. I share your disappointment as I was personally a big fan of their show also. My hope is, providing you with this music in an online/streaming format at www.spirit1023.com you still are able to continue to hear the songs you know and love at work and at home via the Internet.
I also want to invite you to sample what KRMG has to offer. News Talk KRMG features the very latest breaking news, weather, and traffic information. "The KRMG Morning News" is a top rated program, and is the only all-news morning show with host Joe Kelley, co-host Rick Couri, and KRMG News Director, Dan Potter.
KRMG is also home to America's leading syndicated talk show hosts including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, Michael Savage, and Clark Howard.
Plus, KRMG offers a unique partnership with The News on 6 to provide you with Tulsa's most accurate weather information around the clock, and severe weather coverage when necessary.
I think you'll find KRMG's content to be family friendly and a good match for Tulsa's conservative values.
If I can be of further help, please call me at 918-523-2022 or you can reach me via e-mail at dan.lawrie@coxradio.com.
